Pumpkin Carving - The Real Estate Way

How To Carve a Pumpkin....

Realtor Style!!!

That's right! Even YOU can carve a pumpkin this Halloween!

OK, my dear readers, I know I posted this last year too, but it's just one of those posts that seems to warrant repeating....

Halloween is fast approaching. And that can only mean one thing...

Well, actually it means a lot of things.

But it does mean it's time for pumpkin carving!

So, without further ado, here is a primer on pumpkin carving for those of us in the Real Estate industry.

You can thank me later!

1. Your first step is to pick a pumpkin worthy of carving.

This one is not worthy......

Really? You were thinking of using this one? Pick a better pumpkin please!

This one is......

This is a much better choice for pumpkin carving.

2. Cut off the top of the pumpkin. Be very careful with this step as we all know that people in the Real Estate industry are not very good with sharp things!

Just follow the dotted line!

3. Scoop out the goopy stuff from the inside of the pumpkin.

If you've had a good year, discard it.

If you've had a bad year, save it. You might need to make a meal out of it!

This is the goopy stuff!

4. On the pumpkin draw the outline of what you want your carved pumpkin to look like.....

Here's a pattern even Realtors can follow!

5. Cut along the lines of your pattern.

Again, be very careful! Refer to the warning above!

Also, try not to make your pumpkin too elaborate. You know you're not very good at drawing within the lines in coloring books, or your contracts for that matter, and this time you'll be using a knife!

Be careful. Knives are sharp!

6. Insert a lit votive candle into your newly carved pumpkin and replace the lid.

Be careful. Fire can be dangerous!

Be careful. Fire can be dangerous!

7. Marvel at what you've accomplished!

You didn't follow the pattern and now look at what you've done! I hope you're happy with yourself!

8. Thank your favorite Raleigh/ Cary/ Apex area Realtor (or me)!!!

And don't forget to enter the "Give This Picture a Caption" contest. The winner will be announced tomorrow so you still have some time to get your winning entry in!

It's Contest Time! Give This Picture a Caption and Win a Prize! Come On... You Know You Want To!

Hi Craig,

Just in time! I managed to pick the right pumpking and have your instructions handy :)

Have a great day!!!

Posted by Tatyana Makarov, Your Greater Hartford Area Realtor (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage) almost 3 years ago

Gotta love that handsome pumpkin face. I do hope it never gets that bad of a year that I need to eat the goop inside a pumpkin. Now the seeds would be OK with salt and dried but you would have to eat a lot to make a meal.

Mighty fine instructions Craig. And once you're done with your pumpkin, you can shoot it 1000 meters plus from your cannon. :) Or your Canon.  ( P.S. You don't make a very scary jack o lantern - warm and friendly is what I read off of that glow)

Posted by Debb Janes, REALTOR®, EcoBroker Camas, Washington (The Carl Group, LLC) almost 3 years ago

Dear Craig - GREAT instructions....the knife is a 'dead' give a way...

Hmmm, let's see I think this pumpkin would fit perfectly on the Addams Family lawn...(they are in Charlotte at the moment...)  Cousin Rutman?.........

Addams Family the Musical Comedyafter seeing the knife (lol).....I agree with Larry & Sheila ........!!

Hey Craig - Do you follow your own carving instructions????  I think not!!!  Your outline in instruction 4 doesn't look very similar to the final much more impressive result in instruction 7.   Have a verrrrryyyyy ssssscaaaarrrryyyyy Hallowe'en!!!

Craig, you wield that sword with great precision--no extra thumbs sitting beside the jack-o-lantern, er, Craig-o-lantern. You are definitely the sharpest tool in your box of tricks!

This is a wonderful pumpkin carving tutorial Craig!  I am especially glad you warned us about the sharp stuff!

Posted by Brenda Mullen, Your San Antonio TX Real Estate Agent!! (RE/MAX Access) almost 3 years ago

Another wonderful and excellently executed (perhaps wrong choice of words there) tutorial Craig.  Do you actually scoop all the goop out?

I am noticing a bit of a trend here;

Posted by Laura S. Baker, Realtor, (920) 728-4118, First Weber Group (First Weber Group) almost 3 years ago

When cutting off the top, you should remind people to go in at an angle, otherwise the "lid" will fall in every time.

Craig, Very nice explanation.  I always hate pulling out the goopy stuff.  Everything else is good, except when pumpkins go bad.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT WATCH THIS TERRIBLY UPSETTING VIDEO, that shows violent mistreatment of Pumpkins.  If YOU watch it, for the purpose of protecting your readers, PLEASE feel free to delete this comment, and the offending video immediately.  But, I repeat, DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO.  Best wishes always.

Craig, tis the season to hack at innocent pumpkins and then rip out their innards! Love the knife, although if it got that much blood on it, you're using it wrong... :D

Gay - That's what I thought!

Tatyana - Just follow the instructions carefully Tatyana. I posted them for your safety!

Sharon - Pumpkin seeds = Good. Goopy Stuff = Bad!

Ellie - Put the link here Ellie so everyone who visits can see your post too.

Larry & Sheila - VERY scary stuff! I've always wondered why no kids came to my door on Halloween!

Melissa - I prefer to carve pumpkins in Photoshop. But, I do like supervising and helping out the kids when they carve theirs.

Dorie - Why didn't you give me that idea before I wrote and posted the winner, Dorie? That would have been a fun way to make the announcement.

Posted by Craig Rutman, Raleigh, Cary, Apex area Realtor (Helping people in transition) almost 3 years ago

Debb - For those of you who want further clarification on what Debb's talking about, check out her blog from the other day.

Pam - Love the puns and play on words here Pam! You're welcome to come back anytime!

Laura -Pretty cool, huh? Anyone can add animated .gifs to their comments or blog just by clicking on the "add a picture" tree icon and then entering the url where the animation is located.... For example...

You are getting very sleepy....

Jeff - And Realtors are a tough crowd when it comes to following instructions! But this should help some!

Posted by Craig Rutman, Raleigh, Cary, Apex area Realtor (Helping people in transition) almost 3 years ago

Craig I love that spider!  We have a pumpkin shortage up here because of the hurricane so there will be no pumpkin carving this year!

batana1_e0.gifFlying bat Craig, I am always learning something new from you!  I had no idea that animation is so easy to add.

Oops -- not so easy. My flying bat doesn't fly.  What am I doing wrong??

Posted by Dianne Goode, Realtor/Broker (Raleigh Cary Realty) almost 3 years ago

Dianne - Are you sure your flying bat always flew? If so, and you put the url of the picture in the box as I mentioned in my comment above, it should have worked. If your bat didn't always fly, then maybe you've just gone batty!!!

Craig, I carved a pumpkin last year in the image of your last photo...all the kids and especially the adults wouldn't step foot on my property...they screamed and ran past...this is a good thing to know in the future when some family members and acquaintances start showing up unannounced.

Posted by Laura S. Baker, Realtor, (920) 728-4118, First Weber Group (First Weber Group) almost 3 years ago

Nick - That's funny. I just hang this picture in my window and it achieves the same results. It also wards off solicitors!

Nick Pappas, scaring the children!

Laura - Ahh. But you know how to do it now. Remember to use your new found powers for good and not for evil!

Posted by Craig Rutman, Raleigh, Cary, Apex area Realtor (Helping people in transition) almost 3 years ago

Laura - You'll have to ask Nick! But I will tell you no one's knocked on my door ever since I put that picture up nearly 3 years ago!!!

Posted by Craig Rutman, Raleigh, Cary, Apex area Realtor (Helping people in transition) almost 3 years ago

Craig, I realize that I'm commenting a year later on this post...told you I've been busy..anyway, I was out today Googling my name and clicked on "images for "Nick T Pappas" and amoung the thousands of photos...well ok...hundreds of photos I found the one above in your comment #59 and I had to come back and thank you...I've never looked better...all of me!

I'll press Laura's question...it was just for fun...right??? :)
